Yellowface, by R F Kuang

I loved the beginning! As a writer, I felt that everything during the first quarter of the novel resonated with me. I listened to this as an audiobook and found myself nodding emphatically as I went on my morning walk. I tried not to get too caught up in the politics of it all, rather, I looked at the story for entertainment value. For that’s why I read. I think the author tried to make this book divisive, perhaps for the sake of controversy itself? I don’t know as I’m not in any position to judge. That said, the novel kept me entertained for the most part, however, the twists toward the end were expected. I did enjoy the way it was told; the narrator did a great job and June’s thought processes, the guilt versus the entitlement, I think, were the crux of the story. I can recommend this one.
