The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris

I liked this book. Nothing is shocking as we’ve heard and watched it before through other similar books and movies and even though it wasn’t a book that I was desperate to return to, it’s always interesting to see it through different perspectives and each story in this horror is important. This is the story of Lale, a man who is fortunate enough to be picked for a cushy, well relatively cushy, job and he sees different parts of the terror that were the concentration camps. Lale is a relatable protagonist and his dealings with the different types of people are understandably predictable – he is a smart man. But it was the story of the lovers, not knowing if each meeting will be their last, that touched me and brought a real humanity to the book.
Not completely taken with the style of writing, but that’s a personal preference.
A solid story, heart-rending and hopeful.
